I’ve signed a long-term partnership with Polymarket, and I want to share what caught my attention.
Over the last several months, I’ve been comparing sports market prices, especially moneylines. Polymarket kept standing out in the comparisons I reviewed, which led me to take a closer look.
Disclosure: I have a commercial partnership with Polymarket.
What I Observed While Comparing Prices
In my comparisons, I found more favorable pricing on Polymarket nearly 80% of the time, often by what I described as roughly “10 cents less juice.”
That’s my observation from the markets I monitored, not an independently verified study or a claim that Polymarket always offers the better price. Prices change, and fees and market rules matter when comparing them.
The Mammoth Example: −136 vs. −122
During a Mammoth game, I observed −122 on Polymarket compared with −136 at the other sportsbooks I was monitoring at the same time—a noticeably better quoted price.
Understanding Prediction Market Prices
Polymarket operates differently from a traditional sportsbook. Participants trade contracts tied to outcomes, with prices reflecting what other participants are willing to pay.
A contract trading at 75 cents is commonly described as implying a 75% probability. That’s a market assessment, not a guarantee of what will happen. Polymarket explains its pricing here.
Looking Beyond the Displayed Odds
The quoted price is one part of a comparison. It’s also important to check:
- Whether both markets cover the same outcome.
- How overtime, cancellations, and other exceptions are handled.
- How much is available at the displayed price.
- Whether additional fees affect the final cost.
Polymarket publishes its fees, and those costs belong in the comparison. Read its fee information here.
Keeping the Partnership in Perspective
This partnership is a new commercial relationship connected to the sports conversations we’re already having. You should keep that relationship in mind when evaluating my comments about the platform.
A partnership doesn’t make a pick more likely to win. Different prices don’t eliminate risk, and past results don’t promise future outcomes.
The Same Approach to Results and Risk
Wins and losses both belong in the conversation. You can find previous recaps on the Hammering Hank Results page, and our unit betting guide explains how we describe stakes and track exposure.
Whatever platform you use, don’t risk money needed for bills, rent, or savings. Set limits, take breaks, and never increase your stakes to chase a loss.
Sports betting and prediction markets involve risk. Only participate where legally permitted. Past results do not guarantee future outcomes.
